The desert does not have the same needs and resources as the beach. Or the deep south with its great heat. The north with its terribly severe winters. Not a great deal of similarity between the needs of those places.

There is energy found in the water as it moves along and this can be converted into energy at hydropower plants, and also by using the power of the waves to generate other forms of energy.

We can cut our energy use way down by being super conscious about conserving. Where ever possible we can use systems that do not require a lot of electricity or fuel. Consider walking or riding a bike instead of exclusively driving everywhere. Use a clothes line to dry clothes instead of only using a dryer. Recycle everything possible. If you have the space and ability, grow a garden and do some food preparation and storage; like drying fruit and vegetables. Grow extra food to trade for things you need. Create community around you and develop a system for sharing and trading.

When compared to the United States, the efforts of China are amazing. We often view China as a country “catching up” to the rest of the world. With the large investment in renewable energy, it is clear that China is now leading in the energy arena instead of following. Perhaps those future conflicts will not come to be.
